King James Version Bible and Spirit of Prophecy Quotes |
I saw a company who stood well guarded and firm, giving no countenance to those who would unsettle the established faith of the body. God looked upon them with approbation. I was shown three steps–the first, second, and third angels’ messages. Said my accompanying angel, ‘Woe to him who shall move a block or stir a pin of these messages. THE TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF THESE MESSAGES IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE. THE DESTINY OF SOULS HANGS UPON THE MANNER IN WHICH THEY ARE RECEIVED.’ I was again brought down through these messages, and saw how dearly the people of God had purchased their experience. It had been obtained through much suffering and severe conflict. God had led them along step by step, until He had placed them upon a solid, immovable platform. {Early Writings, pp. 258,259 1882} |
The Three Angel’s Messages are given in Revelation 14:6-11 |
Summary of the 1st Angel’s Message: A world-wide final gospel of truth message proclaimed just before Christ’s Second Advent to give glory and WORSHIP TO GOD THE FATHER – our Creator. |
Summary of the 2nd Angel’s Message: A world-wide final gospel of truth message proclaimed just before Christ’s Second Advent for God’s people to “come out” of Babylon – to leave the apostate churches of the world – that is Roman Catholicism as well as Protestants who have rejected the truth. By giving your allegiance to Rome – the “mother of harlots”, you have drunk “of the wine of the wrath of her fornication”. The message is “Come out” and give glory and WORSHIP TO GOD THE FATHER – our Creator – and not to a man-made papal institution or it’s off-spring. |
Summary of the 3rd Angel’s Message: A world-wide final gospel of truth message proclaimed just before Christ’s Second Advent regarding the penalties for worshipping the beast and his image rather than giving the glory and your WORSHIP TO GOD THE FATHER – our Creator. |
So, when we analysis the 3 Angel’s Messages we conclude that the central and most important theme that GOD REQUIRES US to do is TO GIVE GLORY AND WORSHIP TO GOD THE FATHER – our Creator. |
Yes, we do this through His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, but NEVER through any other source. |
ONLY ONE GOD |
De6.4 Hear, O Israel: THE LORD OUR GOD [IS] ONE LORD: [is42.8; ml2.10; mk12.29-30,32; jn17.3; ro3.30; 1co8.4&6; ep4.6; 1ti2.5; ja2.19]. {ONE GOD – not a 3 in 1 / 1 in 3 mysterious god.} |
Is42.8 I [AM] THE LORD: THAT [IS] MY NAME: AND MY GLORY WILL I NOT GIVE TO ANOTHER, neither my praise to graven images. [de6.4; ml2.10; mk12.29-30,32; jn17.3; ro3.30; 1co8.4&6; ep4.6; 1ti2.5; ja2.19]. {So no changes – just like ml3.6 confirms.} |
Mk12.29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments [is], Hear, O Israel; THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD: [de6.4; is42.8; ml2.10; mk12.30,32; jn17.3; ro3.30; 1co8.4&6; ep4.6; 1ti2.5; ja2.19] |
Mk12.30 And thou shalt love the LORD THY GOD with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment. [de4.29, de6.5, de30.2,6,10; je29.13; mt22.37; lk10.27] |
Mk12.32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: FOR THERE IS ONE GOD; AND THERE IS NONE OTHER BUT HE: [de6.4; is42.8; ml2.10; mk12.29-30; jn17.3; ro3.30; 1co8.4&6; ep4.6; 1ti2.5; ja2.19] |
Mk12.34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, THOU ART NOT FAR FROM THE KINGDOM OF GOD. And no man after that durst ask him [any question]. {Jesus, Himself a Jew, confirms that this ONE GOD belief is NOT FAR FROM THE KINGDOM OF GOD. } |
1co8.6 But to us [there is but] ONE GOD, THE FATHER, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; AND ONE LORD JESUS CHRIST, by whom [are] all things, and we by him. [de6.4; is42.8; ml2.10; mk12.29-30,32; jn17.3; ro3.30; 1co8.4; ep4.6; 1ti2.5; ja2.19]. {Again, just 2 individual persons and not 3.} |
1ti2.5 FOR [THERE IS] ONE GOD, AND ONE MEDIATOR between God and men, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS; [de6.4; is42.8; ml2.10; mk12.29-30,32; jn17.3; ro3.30; 1co8.4&6; ep4.6; ja2.19] {Note: A mediator is an impartial person. Note also the only reference to THE MAN CHRIST JESUS. Paul is writing to Timothy AFTER Christ’s ascension to heaven. Jesus’ work as the perfect mediator between God and man is not only dependent on His death but also in HIS CONTINUING HUMANITY. In His humanness, we are united to Him by faith, and only in Him are we united to God.} |
Ja2.19 Thou believest that there is ONE GOD; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. [de6.4; is42.8; ml2.10; mk12.29-30,32; jn17.3; ro3.30; 1co8.4&6; ep4.6; 1ti2.5]. {So even the devils, including Satan, know that there is only ONE GOD.} |
I feel my spirit stirred within me. I feel to the depth of my being that the truth must be borne to other countries and nations, and to all classes. Let the missionaries of the cross proclaim that there is ONE GOD, and one Mediator between God and man, who is Jesus Christ the Son of the Infinite God. THIS NEEDS TO BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT EVERY CHURCH IN OUR LAND. {1888 886.3} |
Eternal Life |
Je10.10 But THE LORD [IS] THE TRUE GOD, HE [IS] THE LIVING GOD, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. |
Jn17.3 AND THIS IS LIFE ETERNAL, THAT THEY MIGHT KNOW THEE THE ONLY TRUE GOD, AND JESUS CHRIST, whom THOU hast sent. [de6.4; is42.8; ml2.10; mk12.29-30,32; ro3.30; 1co8.4&6; ep4.6; 1ti2.5; ja2.19]. {What is life eternal ? THAT THEY MIGHT KNOW THEE THE ONLY TRUE GOD, AND JESUS CHRIST}. |
1j5.11 And THIS IS THE RECORD, THAT GOD HATH GIVEN TO US ETERNAL LIFE, AND THIS LIFE IS IN HIS SON. {Pertaining to His Son – not given to us via another god.} |
Matthew 6:9-13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be THY name. THY kingdom come. THY will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For THINE is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. |
Our ETERNAL LIFE depends upon knowing THE ONLY TRUE GOD, AND JESUS CHRIST. It is a Salvational issue. |
Time Periods |
1. Throughout eternity past |
2. Past – From eternity past until now |
3. Present |
4. Future until eternity future |
5. Throughout eternity future |
God the Father has always existed |
De33.27 THE ETERNAL GOD [is thy] refuge, and underneath [are] the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy [them]. |
Let those who are oppressed under a sense of sin remember that there is hope for them. The salvation of the human race has ever been the object of the councils of heaven. The covenant of mercy was made before the foundation of the world. It has existed from all eternity, and is called the everlasting covenant. So surely as there NEVER WAS A TIME WHEN GOD WAS NOT, so surely there never was a moment when it was not the delight of the eternal mind to manifest His grace to humanity. He is ever calling, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it can not save, neither His ear heavy, that it can not hear.” {ST, June 12, 1901 par. 7} |
“For thus saith THE HIGH AND LOFTY ONE THAT INHABITETH ETERNITY, WHOSE NAME IS HOLY; I dwell in the high and holy place.” Therefore we are to reverence the Lord God and walk carefully and tremblingly before Him. For our comfort and encouragement He adds that, notwithstanding His high and holy position, He dwells “with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” IN THIS WONDERFUL STATEMENT FROM OUR HEAVENLY FATHER all may learn what their character will be if they are indeed in vital connection with God. {Ms46-1894} |
“Thus saith THE HIGH AND LOFTY ONE THAT INHABITETH ETERNITY, WHOSE NAME IS HOLY: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” The presence of God in the heart is worth more than all else in the world. Only by receiving Him here, will we be able to see Him face to face. {Ms11-1896} |
When will Christians know and have a better understanding of God? GOD SAYS, “I AM THAT I AM,” THE HIGH AND LOFTY ONE THAT INHABITETH ETERNITY. “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” “I am the Lord, I change not.” With Him is no variableness neither shadow of turning. {Ms127-1897} |
Jesus was formed from God FROM eternity |
Pr8.22 THE LORD POSSESSED ME IN THE BEGINNING OF HIS WAY, before his works of old. |
Pr8.23 I WAS SET UP FROM EVERLASTING, FROM THE BEGINNING, or ever the earth was. {From, NOT THROUGHOUT} |
Pr8.24 When [there were] no depths, I WAS BROUGHT FORTH; when [there were] no fountains abounding with water. { A son is brought forth from his father}. |
Pr8.25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I BROUGHT FORTH: { A son is brought forth from his father}. |
Pr8.30 Then I was by him, [as] ONE BROUGHT UP [with him]: and I was daily [his] delight, rejoicing always before him; {A son is often by the side of his father when he is brought / growing up}. |
Jn5.26 FOR AS THE FATHER HATH LIFE IN HIMSELF; SO HATH HE GIVEN TO THE SON TO HAVE LIFE IN HIMSELF; {So the Father – already existing – gives [at some later point in time] life to His Son = human beings being the similar equivalent. This disproves the trinity doctrine which says that Jesus is co-eternal, co-existent with the Father. This verse is, with jn8.42, very important to study.} |
Jn7.29 But I know him: for I AM FROM HIM, and he hath sent me. |
Jn8.42 Jesus said unto them, If GOD were your FATHER, ye would love me: for I PROCEEDED FORTH AND CAME FROM GOD; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. {Literally FROM GOD – like Jn16.27, 16.30 & 17.8 this is not limited just to God’s heavenly location. The Father – already existing – gives [at some later point in time] life to His Son = human beings being the similar equivalent. This disproves the trinity doctrine which says that Jesus is co-eternal, co-existent with the Father. This verse is, with jn5.26, very important to study.} |
Jn16.28 I CAME FORTH FROM THE FATHER, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. {Jesus – the Only Begotten Son of the Father; should the Holy Spirit have been begotten then Jesus would not have been the Only Begotten Son.} {Jesus confirms God as His Father in a singular context – no plural God.} |
“FROM ETERNITY THERE WAS A COMPLETE UNITY BETWEEN THE FATHER AND THE SON. THEY WERE TWO, YET LITTLE SHORT OF BEING IDENTICAL; TWO IN INDIVIDUALITY, YET ONE IN SPIRIT. AND HEART, AND CHARACTER.” – Ellen G. White, The Youth Instructor Dec.16, 1897, p. 310 |
THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE DIVINE SON OF GOD, EXISTED FROM ETERNITY, A DISTINCT PERSON, YET ONE WITH THE FATHER. He was the surpassing glory of heaven. He was the commander of the heavenly intelligences, and the adoring homage of the angels was received by him as his right. This was no robbery of God. “The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way,” he declares, “before his works of old. I WAS SET UP FROM EVERLASTING, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I WAS BROUGHT FORTH; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I BROUGHT FORTH; while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth.” {RH, April 5, 1906 par. 7} |
“Every member of the human family, except Adam, has had parents, and everyone has had beginning of days; and indeed, with two exceptions, everyone has had end of life. Even the angels of God have all had beginning of days, so that they would be as much excluded by this language as the members of the human family. AND AS TO THE SON OF GOD, HE WOULD BE EXCLUDED ALSO, FOR HE HAD GOD FOR HIS FATHER, AND DID, AT SOME POINT IN THE ETERNITY OF THE PAST, HAVE BEGINNING OF DAYS.” {J. N. Andrews, Review & Herald, September 7, 1869} |
Jesus was BEGOTTEN from God the Father |
Ps2.7 I will declare the decree: THE LORD HATH SAID UNTO ME, THOU [ART] MY SON; THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE. [ac13.33] |
The French Louis Second Bible translation reads: |
I will publish the decree; THE LORD SAID TO ME: YOU ARE MY SON! I FATHERED YOU TODAY. |
Jn1.18 No man hath seen God at any time; THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, which is in the BOSOM OF THE FATHER, he hath declared [him]. {The word BEGOTTEN means derived from something which is already in existence. So Jesus came from the bosom of His Father. Father existed first, then formed His only begotten Son – just like in mankind. This disproves the co-existant, co-eternal trinity doctrine where Jesus and the Holy Spirit are said to have always existed as gods.} {BOSOM – singular context – no plural God.} |
Jn3.16 >FOR GOD so loved the world, that he GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. {The word BEGOTTEN means derived from something which is already in existence. Note: God did not send His Son to be begotten. God sent His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. God already had an Only begotten Son; and in His Love to restore fallen man, this is what God gave. How did He give? The Eternal Father, the unchangeable one, gave his only begotten Son, TORE FROM HIS BOSOM Him who was made in the express image of his person, and sent him down to earth to reveal how greatly he loved mankind. ….. {Review & Herald, July 9, 1895 par. 13} The condition for having everlasting life is to believe that GOD has given His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON and to believe in him. This is as the baptisms mentioned within Acts.} {HIS – singular context – no plural God.} |
Jn3.18 >He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD. {3rd person usage. The word BEGOTTEN means derived from something which is already in existence.} |
Ac2.30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that GOD had sworn with an oath to him, that of THE FRUIT OF HIS LOINS, according to the flesh, HE WOULD RAISE UP CHRIST TO SIT ON HIS THRONE; {THE FRUIT OF HIS LOINS implies a child formed from God = His only begotten Son.} {HIS – singular context – no plural God.} |
He5.5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, THOU ART MY SON, TO DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE. {The word BEGOTTEN means derived from something which is already in existence.} |
Jesus was from the Bosom of His God |
THE ETERNAL FATHER, the unchangeable one, GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, TORE FROM HIS BOSOM Him who was made in the express image of his person, and sent him down to earth to reveal how greatly he loved mankind. He is willing to do more, “more than we can ask or think.” An inspired writer asks a question which should sink deep into every heart: “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Shall not every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ say, “Since God has done so much for us, how shall we not, for Christ’s sake, show our love to him by obedience to his commandments, by being doers of his word, by unreservedly consecrating ourselves to his service?” {Review & Herald, July 9, 1895 par. 13} |
When in the fulness of time THE SON OF THE INFINITE GOD CAME FORTH FROM THE BOSOM OF THE FATHER to this world, He came in the garb of humanity, clothing His divinity with humanity. The Father and the Son in consultation decided that Christ must come to the world as a babe, and live the life that human beings must live from childhood to manhood, bearing the trials that they must bear, and at the same time living a sinless life, that men might see in Him an example of what they can become, and that He might know by experience how to help them in their struggles with sin. He was tried as man is tried, tempted as man is tempted. The life that He lived in this world, men can live, through His power and under His instruction. {ST, May 17, 1905 par. 5} |
While many of the people believed on him, his own brethren, connected with him by ties of relationship, were unbelieving, and thought he was beside himself in thus claiming divine authority, and in placing himself before the Pharisees as a reprover of their sins. His brethren knew that they were seeking to find occasion against him, and they felt that in the words he had spoken, he had given occasion enough. They must make some determined effort to prevent him from uttering words that would not only involve him in difficulty, but bring down upon his family the denunciations of the Pharisees. While he was speaking these decided words against those who were unbelieving, his disciples brought in the message that his mother and his brethren were without, and desired to speak with him. He knew what was in their hearts. He knew that they did not understand his character or mission, or realize that HE CAME FORTH FROM THE BOSOM OF THE FATHER. They did not realize that he was born to bear witness unto the truth, and did not understand his words of calm authority, that came forth from his lips with an earnestness proportionate to their reality and importance. {ST, October 1, 1896 par. 8} |
Christ uttered no sentiments, notions, or opinions that were simply such. That which he spoke was the truth. HE HAD COME FORTH FROM THE BOSOM OF THE FATHER, and was the revealer of the infinite mind. He spoke with the authority of the divine oracle. He uttered the words of eternal life, unfolded truths of the highest order. Then what comfort should come to the believer as he reads these words: “Whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” {ST, October 1, 1896 par. 11} |
Christ’s work was not done in such a way as to dazzle men with His superior abilities. HE CAME FORTH FROM THE BOSOM OF THE ALL-WISE, and could have astonished the world with the great and glorious knowledge which He possessed; yet He was reticent and uncommunicative. It was not His mission to overwhelm them with the immensity of His talents, but to walk in meekness and lowliness, that He might instruct the ignorant in the ways of salvation. Too great devotion to study, even of true science, creates an abnormal appetite, which increases as it is fed. This creates a desire to secure more knowledge than is essential to do the work of the Lord. The pursuit of knowledge merely for its own sake diverts the mind from devotion to God, checks advance along the path of practical holiness, and hinders souls from traveling in the way which leads to a holier, happier life. The Lord Jesus imparted only such a measure of instruction as could be utilized. My brethren, your way of representing the necessity for years of study is not pleasing to God. {FE 338.2 1923} |
NONE BUT THE SON OF GOD COULD ACCOMPLISH OUR REDEMPTION; FOR ONLY HE WHO WAS IN THE BOSOM OF THE FATHER COULD DECLARE HIM. Only He who knew the height and depth of the love of God could make it manifest. Nothing less than the infinite sacrifice made by Christ in behalf of fallen man could express the Father’s love to lost humanity. {SC 14.2 1892.1893} |
NONE OF THE ABOVE AGREES WITH THE TRINITY DOCTRINE. |
A reminder of what the trinity doctrine implies: |
Various Trinitarian concepts exist. But generally the Trinity teaching is that in the Godhead there are three distinct divine persons, Father, Son and Holy Ghost; yet, together they are but one God. The doctrine says that the three are co-eternal, co-existent, co-equal, almighty and uncreated, having existed eternally in the Godhead. |
God the Father is not God the Son is not God the Holy Spirit [Ghost] is not God the Father. also The Father is a God, the Son is a God and the Holy Spirit [Ghost] is a God. |
The trinity belief is that the Son [as well as the Holy Spirit], is CO-ETERNAL, CO-EXISTENT, CO-EQUAL like the Father. Hence all three MUST HAVE ALWAYS EXISTED. That there is a ‘god the son’ and a ‘god the holy spirit’ as well as God the Father. THIS IS NOT WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS. |
1. The trinity doctrine contradicts the faith of Jesus. |
2. The trinity doctrine leads to the worship of a different God to the one that Jesus worshipped. |
3. The trinity doctrine is not explained nor mentioned within the Scriptures. |
4. The 1st person of the trinity doctrine is God – Jesus’ Father; but the 3rd person of the trinity doctrine fathered Jesus. |
5. The One True God of the Bible is a singular “I”, “Me”, “He”, or “Him”. It is never “They” or any other plural. |
6. The trinity doctrine contradicts the plain teachings of Jesus and the Apostles. |
7. The trinity doctrine reduces the work of Jesus Christ. |
8. The trinity doctrine takes away Jesus as our Comforter. |
9. The trinity doctrine takes away humanity’s hope of Glory. |
10. The trinity doctrine destroys Righteousness by Faith. |
11. The trinity doctrine strips the believer of Eternal Life. |
12. The trinity doctrine destroys the Atonement. |
13. The trinity doctrine denies the true and literal Sonship of Jesus. |
14. The equality of Jesus with His Father is based upon the Sonship with His Father. |
15. The trinity doctrine makes God a liar. |
16. It Destroys the Love of God. |
17. The trinity doctrine affects Character Growth. |
18. The trinity doctrine destroys the Family Unit. |
19. The trinity doctrine is pagan. |
20. The Sign used for the trinity doctrine is pagan. |
The trinity doctrine contradicts the faith of Jesus, all the Disciples and the Apostles. The trinity doctrine contradicts the faith of Ellen G. White, James S. White and every pioneer of the Seventh-day Adventist church. |
Please critically examine your belief about God being a unity of 3 co-eternal persons. The Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy are NOT revealing a Trinity doctrine. The Seventh-Day Adventists [SDA] pioneers including Ellen White were correct in their understanding. The SDA church didn’t have to change their original doctrine; they changed for the worse. It’s time to return to God’s Word. |
Brother/Sister: This IS a Salvational issue – please turn your back on the trinity doctrine – we can only serve ONE GOD to get into the KINGDOM OF GOD. |
Re7.10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, SALVATION TO OUR GOD WHICH SITTETH UPON THE THRONE, AND UNTO THE LAMB. {SALVATION is in just TWO – God and Jesus; NOT the Holy Spirit [of God].} |

Re4.2 And immediately I [John the Revelator] was in the spirit; and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and [one] sat on the throne. |
Conclusion: According to God’s Word, the Spirit NEVER sits upon the Heavenly Throne. ONLY GOD THE FATHER AND HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON SIT UPON THE HEAVENLY THRONE – this is confirmed by the Spirit of Prophecy and by the Scriptures. |
A challenge |
Can you find anything in the Bible or even the Spirit of Prophecy that indicates that the 3 Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) are an “only being” or “one Divine trinitarian being” and that They are “indivisible” and “one substance” or, again, have “one indivisible nature” and are “inseparably connected” to each other or, yet again, are all “inextricably bound together in one Divine substance”? |
Should you find anything, then please tell the whole world – especially the Catholic church. They would welcome you with open arms; it is just what they need. |
The answer is you will not find such statements anywhere in the Bible nor even the Spirit of Prophecy. |
Recap on Truth |
There is one God, the Father, a personal, spiritual being, the creator of all things, omnipotent, omniscient, and eternal; infinite in wisdom, holiness, justice, goodness, truth, and mercy; unchangeable, and everywhere present by his representative, the Holy Spirit. |
Christ is the only begotten Son of the Eternal Father and is not a created being. He is equal to the Father in deity and divine perfection and is the one by whom God created all things, and by whom they do consist. |
When we worship just One God – God the Father – through His only begotten Son – knowing that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus which is and comes from the Spirit of God the Father, then, we have both Biblical and SOP support. |
The Holy Spirit of God / Holy Spirit of Jesus |
CHRIST HAS GIVEN HIS SPIRIT AS A DIVINE POWER to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress His own character upon His church. {DA 671.2 1898} |
The Holy Spirit was the highest of all gifts that He could solicit from His Father for the exaltation of His people. {DA 671.2 1898} |
When he [the Spirit of truth] is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. |
The Holy Spirit was sent as the most priceless treasure man could receive. {DA 671.4 1898} |
He [Christ] determined to give His representative, the third person of the Godhead. This gift could not be excelled. He would give all gifts in one, and therefore the divine Spirit, converting, enlightening, sanctifying, would be His donation. {ST, December 1, 1898 par. 2} |
Dignitary = of high rank or office importance. |
[Divine] Power = a supernatural being, deity, or force. |
Mighty Power. “The prince of the power of evil can only be held in check by the power of God in the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit.” |
Mighty Agency. |
Effective Helper. |
Comforter – Holy Spirit = a provider of consolation. |
A Regenerating Agent. “The Spirit was to be given as a regenerating agent, and without this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail.” |
An Endowment of [Physical and Mental] Power. |
A Gift [the highest gift] from God the Father. |
[Third Person of the Godhead – as previously stated.] |
So the Holy Spirit of God is described in many ways; but never as a 3rd god nor as a 3rd individual person. |
Christ said of the Spirit, “He shall glorify me.” As Christ glorified the Father by the demonstration of his love, so THE SPIRIT WAS TO GLORIFY CHRIST by revealing to the world the riches of his grace. The very image of God is to be reproduced in humanity. The honor of God, the honor of Christ, is involved in the perfection of the character of his people. {RH, May 19, 1904 par. 4} |
Note: If the Holy Spirit was a god, then he would not need to glorify Christ, nor His Father. |
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF GOD; IT IS ALSO THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST. IT IS THAT DIVINE, MYSTERIOUS EMANATION through which they carry forward their great and infinite work. — (Uriah Smith, GC Bulletin, March 18, 1891, pp. 146, 147) {EMANATION – something which originates or issues from a source.} |
The terms “Holy Ghost”, are a harsh and repulsive translation. It should be “Holy Spirit” (hagion pneuma) in every instance. THIS SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF GOD, AND THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST; THE SPIRIT BEING THE SAME WHETHER IT IS SPOKEN OF AS PERTAINING TO GOD OR CHRIST. But respecting this Spirit, the Bible uses expressions which cannot be harmonized with the idea that it is a person like the Father and the Son. Rather it is shown to be a divine influence from them both, the medium which represents their presence and by which they have knowledge and power through all the universe, when not personally present. — (Uriah Smith, RH, October 28, 1890) |
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, which is sent to all men to give them sufficiency, that through His grace we might be complete in Him. The Lord has provided that we should always be under the teaching and influence of the Holy Spirit. We shall then discover that the law of God is holy, just, and good, and we would learn to delight in the law of God. We love the requirements of the law, and from our hearts render obedience to its requirements. {Lt11a-1894} |
True faith and repose in God are always accompanied by the illuminations of the Holy Spirit, whose temple we are. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, IT IS HIS REPRESENTATIVE. Here is the divine agency that carries conviction to hearts. When the power of His spirit is revealed through the servants of God, we behold divinity flashing through humanity. When accompanied by the Holy Spirit, the presentation of truth as it is in Jesus will be of more value than all the honor or glory of the world. {Lt18-1895} |
Cumbered with humanity, CHRIST could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS HIMSELF DIVESTED OF THE PERSONALITY OF HUMANITY AND INDEPENDENT THEREOF. HE WOULD REPRESENT HIMSELF AS PRESENT IN ALL PLACES BY HIS HOLY SPIRIT, AS THE OMNIPRESENT. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall (although unseen by you), [This phrase was added by Ellen White.] teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you [John 14:26]. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will come not unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you [John 16:7]. {14MR 23.3 1990} (Ellen White, Manuscript Releases, vol. 14, pages 23, 24; written February 18 and 19, 1895) |
NB: DIVESTED meaning: To strip or deprive (someone or something), esp. of property or rights; dispossess. To deprive someone of (power, rights, or possessions). Example: men are unlikely to be divested of power without a struggle. |
In describing to His disciples the office work of the Holy Spirit, Jesus sought to inspire them with the joy and hope that inspired His own heart. He rejoiced because of the abundant help He had provided for His church. The Holy Spirit was the highest of all gifts that He could solicit from His Father for the exaltation of His people. The Spirit was to be given as a regenerating agent, and without this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail. The power of evil had been strengthening for centuries, and the submission of men to this satanic captivity was amazing. Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the THIRD PERSON OF THE GODHEAD, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fullness of divine power. It is the Spirit that makes effectual what has been wrought out by the world’s Redeemer. It is by the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. CHRIST HAS GIVEN HIS SPIRIT AS A DIVINE POWER to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress His own character upon His church. {DA 671.2 1898} |
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.” “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children keep yourselves from idols.” The Lord is soon to come. We want that complete and perfect understanding which the Lord alone can give. It is not safe to catch the spirit from another. WE WANT THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHICH IS JESUS CHRIST. If we commune with God, we shall have strength and grace and efficiency. {Lt66-1894} |
What saith our Saviour? “I will not leave thee comfortless; I will come unto you.” “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” When trials overshadow the soul, remember the words of CHRIST, remember that HE IS AN UNSEEN PRESENCE IN THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, and He will be the peace and comfort given you, manifesting to you that He is with you, the Sun of Righteousness, chasing away your darkness. “If a man loves me,” Christ said, “he will keep my words, and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” Be of good cheer; light will come, and your soul will rejoice greatly in the Lord. {Lt124-1897} Also {DG 185.2 1998} {THE HOLY SPIRIT IS CALLED A PERSON – Inspired Writings.} |
The living fountain is to be kept before the souls who are perishing in their sins. They must arouse. They must come to the fountain opened in the house of David. They need the balm of the Saviour’s love applied to their bruised and wounded souls. We must have the mighty energy of the Holy Spirit, with all its quickening, transforming, life-giving power, in order to penetrate the palsied soul. Work we must in spiritual lines. Lift up CHRIST IN HIS POWER IN THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. He is waiting for them to open the door and admit Him. His presence will thrill every nerve and muscle. Every organ will begin to perform its functions, and the whole man will be restored to spiritual soundness as he sees Christ by faith. {Lt59-1899} {THE HOLY SPIRIT IS CALLED A PERSON – Inspired Writings.} |
Desire of Ages, p. 805 “Before the disciples could fulfill their official duties in connection with the church, CHRIST BREATHED HIS SPIRIT UPON THEM. He was committing to them a most sacred trust, and He desired to impress them with the fact that without the Holy Spirit this work could not be accomplished. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE BREATH OF SPIRITUAL LIFE IN THE SOUL. THE IMPARTATION OF THE SPIRIT IS THE IMPARTATION OF THE LIFE OF CHRIST. IT IMBUES THE RECEIVER WITH THE ATTRIBUTES OF CHRIST.” |
Desire of Ages, p. 827 “CHRIST GIVES THEM THE BREATH OF HIS OWN SPIRIT, THE LIFE OF HIS OWN LIFE. THE HOLY SPIRIT PUTS FORTH ITS HIGHEST ENERGIES TO WORK IN HEART AND MIND. The grace of God enlarges and multiplies their faculties, and every perfection of the divine nature comes to their assistance in the work of saving souls. Through co-operation with Christ they are complete in Him, and in their human weakness they are enabled to do the deeds of Omnipotence.” |
A revival and a reformation MUST take place, under the ministration of the Holy Spirit. Revival and reformation are two different things. Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from spiritual death. Reformation signifies a reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits and practices. Reformation will NOT bring forth the good fruit of righteousness unless it is connected with the revival of the Spirit. Revival and reformation are to do their appointed work, and in doing this work THEY MUST BLEND. {RH, February 25, 1902 par. 8} |
A REVIVAL OF TRUE GODLINESS AMONG US IS THE GREATEST AND MOST URGENT OF ALL OUR NEEDS. TO SEEK THIS SHOULD BE OUR FIRST WORK. There must be earnest effort to obtain the blessing of the Lord, not because God is not willing to bestow His blessing upon us, but because we are unprepared to receive it. Our heavenly Father is more willing to give HIS HOLY SPIRIT to them that ask Him, than are earthly parents to give good gifts to their children. But it is our work, by confession, humiliation, repentance, and earnest prayer, to fulfill the conditions upon which God has promised to grant us His blessing. A revival need be expected only in answer to prayer. While the people are so destitute of God’s Holy spirit, they cannot appreciate the preaching of the Word; but when the Spirit’s power touches their hearts, then the discourses given will not be without effect. Guided by the teachings of God’s Word, with the manifestation of HIS SPIRIT, in the exercise of sound discretion, those who attend our meetings will gain a precious experience, and returning home, will be prepared to exert a healthful influence. {RH, March 22, 1887 par. 1} |
I write this because any moment my life may be ended. Unless there is a breaking away from the influence that Satan has prepared, and a reviving of the testimonies that God has given, souls will perish in their delusion. They will accept fallacy after fallacy and will thus keep up a disunion that will always exist UNTIL THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN DECEIVED TAKE THEIR STAND ON THE RIGHT PLATFORM. All this higher education that is being planned will be extinguished; for it is spurious. The more simple the education of our workers, the less connection they have with the men whom God is not leading, the more will be accomplished. Work will be done in the simplicity of true godliness, and the old, old times will be back when, under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, thousands were converted in a day. When the truth in its simplicity is lived in every place, then God will work through His angels as He worked on the day of Pentecost, and hearts will be changed so decidedly that there will be a manifestation of the influence of genuine truth, as is represented in the descent of the Holy Spirit. {Ms21-1906} |
. . .The whole of the gospel is embraced in the third angel’s message, and in all our work the truth is to be presented as it is in Jesus. . . . Let nothing lessen the force of the truth for this time. THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE MUST DO ITS WORK OF SEPARATING FROM THE CHURCHES A PEOPLE WHO WILL TAKE THEIR STAND ON THE PLATFORM OF ETERNAL TRUTH. OUR MESSAGE IS A LIFE AND DEATH MESSAGE, AND WE MUST LET IT APPEAR AS IT IS, THE GREAT POWER OF GOD. WE ARE TO PRESENT IT IN ALL ITS TELLING FORCE. Then the Lord will make it effectual. Jesus – Now forever in human form. |
The Lord desires us to improve in prayer, and to offer our spiritual sacrifices with increased faith and power. “To them gave He power to become the sons of God.” He has given His own Son for our redemption. If by living faith we accept Him as our Saviour, we are placed on vantage ground with God; for Christ stands before His Father, saying, “Lay their sins on me. I will bear their guilt. They are my property. I have graven them upon the palms of my hands.” In our behalf HE PRESENTS BEFORE HIS FATHER THE MARKS OF THE CRUCIFIXION WHICH HE WILL BEAR THROUGHOUT ETERNITY. {Ms91-1901} |
CHRIST ASCENDED TO HEAVEN, BEARING A SANCTIFIED, HOLY HUMANITY. HE TOOK THIS HUMANITY WITH HIM INTO THE HEAVENLY COURTS, AND THROUGH THE ETERNAL AGES HE WILL BEAR IT, as the One who has redeemed every human being in the city of God the One who has pleaded before the Father, “I have graven them upon the palms of my hands.” The palms of his hands bear the marks of the wounds that he received. If we are wounded and bruised, if we meet with difficulties that are hard to manage, let us remember how much Christ suffered for us. Let us sit together with our brethren in heavenly places in Christ. Let us bring heaven’s blessing into our hearts. {RH, March 9, 1905 par. 6} |
Note: Although trinitarians dwell upon the sacrifice of Jesus’ death they do not understand that, since Pentecost, JESUS HAS FOREVER GIVEN UP HIS OMNIPRESENCE. |

Paul’s Salutations and Valedictions |
There are 14 epistles / books in the New Testament that are attributed to the apostle Paul. These are: Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon and Hebrews. |
Paul’s standard greeting in his letters to the churches, as well as individuals to whom he wrote, consistently mentions “GOD OUR FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.” Yet in each of his greetings he never mentions the Holy Spirit! (The same can also be said of Peter in the salutations of both his epistles.) |
The same greeting, with only minor variations, appears in every epistle that bears Paul’s name. Notice below how consistent he is in NOT INCLUDING THE HOLY SPIRIT in his greetings. |
Paul’s example and teaching were in line with Christ’s |
If God were a Trinity, surely Paul, who was taught directly by the resurrected Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:11-12) and who wrote much of the theological underpinnings of the early Church, would have comprehended and taught this concept. Yet we find no such teaching in His writings. |
Paul’s Salutations |
Ro1.7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called [to be] saints: Grace to you and peace from GOD OUR FATHER, AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
1co1.3 Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from GOD OUR FATHER, AND [FROM] THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
Ga1.3 Grace [be] to you and peace from GOD THE FATHER, AND [FROM] OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, |
Ep1.2 Grace [be] to you, and peace, from GOD OUR FATHER, AND [FROM] THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
Ph1.2 Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from GOD OUR FATHER, AND [FROM] THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
Cl1.2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from GOD OUR FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
1th1.1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians [which is] in God the Father and [in] the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from GOD OUR FATHER, AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
2th1.1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in GOD OUR FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST: |
2th1.2 Grace unto you, and peace, from GOD OUR FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
1ti1.2 Unto Timothy, [my] own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from GOD OUR FATHER AND JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. |
2ti1.2 To Timothy, [my] dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from GOD THE FATHER AND CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD. |
Tt1.4 To Titus, [mine] own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from GOD THE FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR. |
Pn1.3 Grace to you, and peace, from GOD OUR FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
He1.1 GOD, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, |
He1.2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [HIS] SON, WHOM HE HATH APPOINTED HEIR OF ALL THINGS, BY WHOM ALSO HE MADE THE WORLDS; |
He1.3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, SAT DOWN ON THE RIGHT HAND OF THE MAJESTY ON HIGH; |
He1.4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. |
He1.5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, THOU ART MY SON, THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? |
He1.6 And again, WHEN HE BRINGETH IN THE FIRSTBEGOTTEN INTO THE WORLD, he saith, And LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM. |
14 quotes: THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ALWAYS LEFT OUT OF THESE GREETINGS—an unbelievable and inexplicable oversight if the Spirit were indeed a person or entity coequal with God the Father and Christ! |
This is even more surprising when we consider that the congregations to which Paul wrote had many gentile members from polytheistic backgrounds who had formerly worshipped numerous gods. Paul’s epistles record no attempt on his part to explain the Trinity or Holy Spirit as a divine person equal with God the Father and Jesus Christ. |
Paul’s Valedictions |
Ro16.27 To GOD only wise, [be] glory through JESUS CHRIST for ever. Amen. |
1co16.23 The grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST [be] with you. |
2co13.14 The grace of the LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND THE LOVE OF GOD, AND THE COMMUNION OF THE HOLY GHOST, [be] with you all. Amen. |
Note: COMMUNION is the sharing or exchanging of INTIMATE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS, especially on a mental or spiritual level. Such implies a spirit and not a person. |
Ga6.18 Brethren, the grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST [be] with your spirit. Amen. |
Ep6.23 Peace [be] to the brethren, and love with faith, from GOD THE FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. |
Ep6.24 Grace [be] with all them that love our LORD JESUS CHRIST in sincerity. Amen. |
Ph4.23 The grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST [be] with you all. Amen. |
Cl4.18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace [be] with you. Amen. |
1th5.28 The grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST [be] with you. Amen. |
2th3.18 The grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST [be] with you all. Amen. |
1ti6.21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace [be] with thee. Amen. |
2ti4.22 The LORD JESUS CHRIST [be] with thy spirit. Grace [be] with you. Amen. |
Tt3.15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace [be] with you all. Amen. |
Pn1.25 The grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST [be] with your spirit. Amen. |
He13.21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen. |
In all of Paul’s writings, only in 2 Corinthians 13:14 is the Holy Spirit mentioned along with the Father and Jesus Christ in such expressions, and there only in connection with the “COMMUNION OF THE HOLY GHOST” in which believers share—not in any sort of theological statement on the nature of God. The point Paul makes here is that God’s Spirit is the unifying agent that brings us together in godly, righteous communion or fellowship, not only with one another but with the Father and Son. |
Yet here, too, God’s Spirit is not spoken of as a person. Notice that Paul writes that our COMMUNION IS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, NOT WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. As 1 John 1:3 tells us, “TRULY OUR FELLOWSHIP IS WITH THE FATHER AND WITH HIS SON JESUS CHRIST”—the Holy Spirit is not mentioned. |
Summary of Findings |
GOD THE FATHER AND OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST is the common denominator used by Paul. He clearly gives his salutations to two, and not three, persons. |
However, for those that what more proof then a search through Paul’s 14 epistles / books for “Holy Spirit” gives just 3 finds [2co13.14 already been covered]: |
Ep1.13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE, |
1th4.8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but GOD, WHO HATH ALSO GIVEN UNTO US HIS HOLY SPIRIT. |
Paul confirms that THE HOLY SPIRIT IS AN ATTRIBUTE OF GOD; it is not another person nor god. |
Paul uses the words “Holy Ghost” on 19 times within his epistles / books; the relevant ones being: |
Ro5.5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because THE LOVE OF GOD IS SHED ABROAD IN OUR HEARTS BY THE HOLY GHOST WHICH IS GIVEN UNTO US. |
Ro9.1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, MY CONSCIENCE ALSO BEARING ME WITNESS IN THE HOLY GHOST, |
Ro15.16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being SANCTIFIED BY THE HOLY GHOST. |
1co2.9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. [is64.4] |
1co2.15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. |
1co2.16 For who hath known THE MIND OF THE LORD, that he may instruct him? But we have THE MIND OF CHRIST. {Note: SO THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE SPIRIT OF GOD, GIVES US THE MIND OF CHRIST. It is God’s revelation to His people of the deep things about Himself that He makes known to only them via being able to search all things. The Holy Spirit has nothing to do with being another person nor god.} |
1co6.19 What? know ye not that YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY GHOST [WHICH IS] IN YOU, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? |
1co6.20 For ye are bought with a price: THEREFORE GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY, AND IN YOUR SPIRIT, WHICH ARE GOD’S. |
2co6.4 But in all [things] approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, |
2co6.5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; |
2co6.6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, |
2co6.7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, |
2co6.8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and [yet] true; |
2co6.9 As unknown, and [yet] well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; |
2co6.10 As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and [yet] possessing all things. {Note: IN THESE 7 VERSES WE HAVE JUST ATTRIBUTES OF GOD – NOT ONE PERSON IS CITED.} |
2ti1.14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by THE HOLY GHOST WHICH DWELLETH IN US. {Note: Cannot be a person – how can you have a person within a person?} |
Tt3.5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and RENEWING OF THE HOLY GHOST; {Note: You can’t renew a person nor a god.} |
Understanding of Words in Scripture |
Spirit – Hebrew Ruach – Greek Pneuma |
Ruach in the Hebrew and Pneuma in the Greek actually mean wind, breath, air in motion. The very breath of God (this is why Jesus breaths the Spirit on the disciples in John 20:22 and with His breath he spoke the world into existence Gen 1:2 and made man, Gen 2:7 – Job 33:4. And at Pentecost the Holy Spirit came like a mighty rushing wind – breath Acts 2:2-4 and will destroy the wicked 2 Thess 2:8). |
LORD – Lord – lord – Hebrew Adonai |
Is19.4 And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts. {The first lord is in all lower case and refers to the cruel Egyptian lords, the second Lord refers to YHWH by the title of honor, and the third instance, in all caps, LORD replaces the word YHWH.} |
When the word lord is all lower case, it stands for the Hebrew ???????, adonai, meaning lord. This is a title of respect. In 1 Kings 3:17a, for instance, it is used when referring to King Solomon: “And the one woman said, O my lord, …” The Hebrew is rendered as ???????, adonai. When this title of respect is used for addressing YHWH, then adonai or ???????, is translated as Lord, with the first letter capitalized. In Isaiah 19:4b we have: “and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord.” The word Lord is capitalized as it stands in for YHWH, as a title of respect for Him. In Hebrew it appears as HA-ADON, ????????, or the Lord. |
When written in all caps, LORD stands in for the Tetragrammaton YHWH, ??????, pronounced Yahweh by some, and Jehovah by others. For instance, we read “in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens” (Genesis 2:4b). LORD God, in this instance, appears as YHWH Elohim, ?????? ????????. The word Jehovah only appears four times in the Old Testament of the KJV, such as in Isaiah 12:3, where it is translated as LORD Jehovah, and in Hebrew we find ??? ??????, Yah Yahweh, or Yah Jehovah. |
The God of Israel in the Old Testament – Hebrew Elohim |
Je10.10 BUT THE LORD [IS] THE TRUE GOD, HE [IS] THE LIVING GOD, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. |
The word “God” is here, and throughout the Old Testament, translated from the Hebrew word “elohim.” So, Jeremiah 10:10 uses the Hebrew word Elohim to specify the true God, the living God. The name of the true God (Elohim), and the living God (Elohim) is Jehovah. |
The New Testament expands our knowledge of this true and living God, known as Elohim in the Old Testament: |
In John 17:3, Christ prays to His Father, and He names His Father the “only true God.” Praying to His Father, Jesus says, |
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” |
According to Jesus, the Father is the only true God. There is “only” one true God, and it is the Father. And Christ is someone other than the only true God. In other words, Christ is not the only true God but the Son of the only true God. This is emphasized by the use of the word “and” – “the only true God and Jesus Christ…” |
This is the same as saying “the Father and His Son.” The Father (the only true God) is not a plurality of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is One, not three. In fact, the Father is the “only” true God, because it is the Father who is given the name of the only true God. The Father is “the true Elohim,” or “the true God” of Jeremiah 10:10. The true Elohim is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only true God (2Corinthians 11:31; Ephesians 1:3; 1Peter 1:3; John 17:3; Jeremiah 10:10). |
Jn5.18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, MAKING HIMSELF EQUAL WITH GOD. |
Notice that God is one person, and Christ is another. Christ could not be equal with God if He were God. He could only be equal with God if He were someone other than God. Christ is equal with God. And what makes Him equal with God is the fact that He is God’s Son. God is the Father of Christ. Christ is the Son of God. |
Elohim is the true God, the only true God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
Ex7.1 And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. |
Elohim is plural the Hebrews use a plural word to refer to a single individual or object, thus denoting its majesty or greatness e.g. Exodus 7:1 the word for god is Elohim but Moses was only one he did not become more than one person Exodus 11:3 it was Moses greatness and majesty rather than plurality. |
Ex11.3 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses [was] very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people. |
Elohim is not a numerical plural denoting more than one god but rather a majestic plural denoting greatness and majesty having a numerically singular meaning. |
Hebrew names can indicate several different things: [a] physical characteristics or [b] indicate authority or [c] reveal character. |
ELOAH is generally considered to be the singular of Elohim, and is occasonally used of a false “god” (2 Chronicles 32:15; Daniel 11:37; Habakkuk 1:11 etc.), but most often translated “God” when referring to the one true God. It is used 41 times in the book of Job, but only 17 times elsewhere. |
ELOHIM is generally considered to be the plural of Eloah. Occasionally it is translated “the judges” (Exodus 21:6; 22:8-9), quite often “the gods” when referring to false gods (Genesis 31:30; Exodus 12:12; 18:11 etc.), but mostly translated “God”, and used with singular verbs when referring to the one true God. This is commonly regarded as a plural of majesty, which is quite a common feature of the Hebrew language. It is used of Jesus in this plural form where it is translated, “O God” (Psalm 45:6), and where it is clearly being addressed to “the Son” (Hebrews 1:8). Therefore it does not prove a plurality of persons in the Godhead, as some have suggested. |
EL is an alternative term for God; occasionally translated “the mighty” (Psalm 82:1), “god” (Deuteronomy 32:12; Psalm 44:20; Malachi 2:11 etc.), “goodly” (Psalm 80:10), “idols” (Isaiah 57:5), “strong” (Ezekiel 32:21), but is mostly translated “God”, referring to the one true God. |
Scripture that has been altered by man. |
Mt28.19 >Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: |
We cannot prove this verse has been tampered with by the Catholic Church but what we do know is: 1) The Catholic Church confess to changing it. The Catholic Encyclopedia, II, page 263: “The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by the Catholic Church in the second century.” 2) Most theologians also agree that they did change it. 3) No one followed this supposed instruction and all were baptized in the name of Christ ONLY! 4) Other Scriptures say we are baptized and saved by calling on the name of the Lord ONLY. 5) Eusebius [c.260-339 AD] who saw the earliest manuscripts when he quoted this verse wrote that it said, “In My name”. The weight of evidence is overwhelming that Matthew 28:19 was changed to the words Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Do those verses say that God, Christ and the Holy Spirit constitute a Trinitarian Godhead, that the three are equal in substance, power and eternity? No, they do not, no more than listing three people, such as Tom, Dick and Harry, means that they are three in one. |
A study by F. C. Conybeare back in 1902 cites the following: EUSEBIUS cites this text (Matt. 28:19) again and again in works written between 300 and 336, namely in his long commentaries on the Psalms, on Isaiah, his Demonstratio Evangelica, his Theophany …in his famous history of the Church, and in his panegyric of the emperor Constantine. I have, after a moderate search in these works of Eusebius, found eighteen citations of Matthew 28:19, and always in the following form: ‘GO YE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL THE NATIONS IN MY NAME, TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS, WHATSOEVER I COMMANDED YOU.‘… Eusebius is not content merely to cite the verse in this form, but he more than once comments on it in such a way as to show how much he set store by the words ‘in my name’. |
All the New Testament baptisms were carried out in the name of Jesus – ac2.38; ac8.12; ac8.16; ac10.48; ac16.15; ac18.8; ac19.5; ac22.16; ro6.3-4; 1co1.12-17; ga3.27; ep4.5 and 1p3.21. Question: Should the original Mt28.19 wording have been as we know it now, then why was every recorded apostle disobeying this commandment of Jesus? |
For Seventh-Day Adventists: “I saw that God had especially guarded the Bible; yet when copies of it were few, learned men had in some instances CHANGED THE WORDS, thinking that they were making it more plain, when in reality they were mystifying that which was plain, by causing it to lean TO THEIR ESTABLISHED VIEWS, WHICH WERE GOVERNED BY TRADITION. But I saw that the Word of God, as a whole, is a perfect chain, one portion linking into and explaining another. True seekers for truth need not err; for not only is the Word of God plain and simple in declaring the way of life, but the Holy Spirit is given as a guide in understanding the way to life therein revealed.” — (E.G. White, Early Writings, 220.2, 1882). {Note: This text was given to us in 1882. Should God’s Word, the KJV Bible have been corrected by then, then this text would have been mere history for our [irrelevant] awareness only. No corrections were made between 1882 and the last, and 7th, KJV Bible update was made in 1900 by the Cambridge Press. Therefore, we should not be surprised to find out that God has permitted certain Bible verses to be altered. These alterations will deceive many – but not God’s very elect who, by diligent study of His Word, will be led to a knowledge of all truth. Note also that Prophecy is History told to us in advance.} |
1j5.7 FOR THERE ARE THREE THAT BEAR RECORD in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. |
1j5.8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, THE SsPIRIT, AND THE WATER, AND THE BLOOD: AND THESE THREE AGREE IN ONE. |
Textual evidence attests the omission of the passage “in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth.” The resultant reading of vs. 7, 8 is as follows: “FOR THERE ARE THREE THAT BEAR RECORD, THE SPIRIT, AND THE WATER, AND THE BLOOD: AND THESE THREE AGREE IN ONE.” The passage as given in the KJV is in no Greek MS earlier than the 15th and 16th centuries. The disputed words found their way into the KJV by way of the Greek text of Erasmus (see Vol. V, p. 141). It is said that Erasmus offered to include the disputed words in his Greek Testament if he were shown even one Greek MS that contained them. A library in Dublin produced such a MS (known as 34), and Erasmus included the passage in his text. It is now believed that the later editions of the Vulgate acquired the passage by the mistake of a scribe who included an exegetical marginal comment in the Bible text that he was copying. The disputed words have been widely used in support of the doctrine of the Trinity, but, in view of such overwhelming evidence against their authenticity, their support is valueless and should not be used. In spite of their appearance in the Vulgate A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture freely admits regarding these words: “It is now generally held that this passage, called the Comma Johanneum, is a gloss that crept into the text of the Old Latin and Vulgate at an early date, but found its way into the Greek text only in the 15th and 16th centuries” (Thomas Nelson and Sons, 1951, p. 1186). |

Scripture that has been altered by translation. |
Jn1.1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with {the} God, and the Word was God. {{the} occurs in the the Greek Textus Receptus (otherwise known as the Received Text) of the New Testament. This is the koine Greek (or common Greek) from which the King James Version of the bible was translated.} {At John 1:1 there are two occurrences of the Greek noun the·os’ [god]. The first occurrence refers to Almighty God, with whom the Word was [“and the Word [lo’gos] was with God [a form of the·os’]”]. This first the·os’ is preceded by the word ton [the], a form of the Greek definite article that points to a distinct identity, in this case Almighty God [“and the Word was with [the] God”].} |
Jn1.2 The same was in {the} beginning with God. {Literally in Greek, John 1:2 says: ‘He was in beginning with God.’ Notice that in Greek there is no definite article before the word ‘beginning’. It makes sense to include the definite article ‘the’ in our English translation for the sake of clarity and English idiom. Thus, ‘He was in the beginning with God.’} |
Jn1.12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: {A literal translation of the end of John 1:12 in Greek reads: ‘…to those who believe into [the] his name.’ It makes our English translation sound awkward or non-sensible to include the definite article ‘the’ before the words ‘his name’, even though it appears in Greek.} |

The SDA [original] 1872 25 Fundamental Principles |
1. That THERE IS ONE GOD , a personal, spiritual being, the creator of all things, omnipotent, omniscient, and eternal, infinite in wisdom, holiness, justice, goodness, truth, and mercy; unchangeable, and everywhere PRESENT BY HIS REPRESENTATIVE, THE HOLY SPIRIT. Ps. 139:7. |
2. That THERE IS ONE LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF THE ETERNAL FATHER, the one by whom God created all things, and by whom they do consist; that he took on him the nature of the seed of Abraham for the redemption of our fallen race; that he dwelt among men full of grace and truth, lived our example, died our sacrifice, was raised for our justification, ascended on high to be OUR ONLY MEDIATOR IN THE SANCTUARY IN HEAVEN, where, with his own blood he makes atonement for our sins; which atonement so far from being made on the cross, which was but the offering of the sacrifice, is the very last portion of his work as priest according to the example of the Levitical priesthood, which foreshadowed and prefigured the ministry of our Lord in Heaven. See Lev. 16; Heb. 8:4, 5; 9:6, 7; &c. |
3. That the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, were given by inspiration of God, contain a full revelation of his will to man, and are the only infallible rule of faith and practice. |
4. That Baptism is an ordinance of the Christian church, to follow faith and repentance, an ordinance by which we commemorate the resurrection of Christ, as by this act we show our faith in his burial and resurrection, and through that, of the resurrection of all the saints at the last day; and that no other mode fitly represents these facts than that which the Scriptures prescribe, namely, immersion. Rom. 6:3-5; Col. 2: 12. |
5. That the new birth comprises the entire change necessary to fit us for the kingdom of God, and consists of two parts: first, a moral change, wrought by conversion and a Christian life; second, a physical change at the second coming of Christ, whereby, if dead, we are raised incorruptible, and if living, are changed to immortality in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. John 3:3, 5; Luke 20:36. |
6. We believe that prophecy is a part of God’s revelation to man; that it is included in that scripture which is profitable for instruction, 2 Tim. 3: 16; that it is designed for us and our children, Deut. 29: 29; that so far from being enshrouded in impenetrable mystery, it is that which especially constitutes the word of God a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, Ps. 119: 105, 2 Pet. 2:19; that a blessing is pronounced upon those who study it, Rev. 1:1-3; and that, consequently, it is to be understood by the people of God sufficiently to show them their position in the world’s history, and the special duties required at their hands. |
7. That the world’s history from specified dates in the past, the rise and fall of empires, and chronological succession of events down to the setting up of God’s everlasting kingdom, are outlined in numerous great chains of prophecy; and that these prophecies are now all fulfilled except the closing scenes. |
8. That the doctrine of the world’s conversion and temporal millennium is a fable of these last days, calculated to lull men into a state of carnal security, and cause them to be overtaken by the great day of the Lord as by a thief in the night; that the second coming of Christ is to precede, not follow, the millennium; for until the Lord appears the papal power, with all its abominations, is to continue, the wheat and tares grow together, and evil men and seducers wax worse and worse, as the word of God declares. |
9. That the mistake of Adventists in 1844 pertained to the nature of the event then to transpire, not to the time; that no prophetic period is given to reach to the second advent, but that the longest one, the two thousand and three hundred days of Dan. 8:14, terminated in that year, and brought us to an event called the cleansing of the sanctuary. |
10. That the sanctuary of the new covenant is the tabernacle of God in Heaven, of which Paul speaks in Hebrews 8, and onward, of which our Lord, as great High Priest, is minister; that this sanctuary is the antitype of the Mosaic tabernacle, and that the priestly work of our Lord, connected therewith, is the antitype of the work of the Jewish priests of the former dispensation. Heb. 8:1-5, &c.; that this is the sanctuary to be cleansed at the end of the 2300 days, what is termed its cleansing being in this case, as in the type, simply the entrance of the high priest into the most holy place, to finish the round of service connected therewith, by blotting out and removing from the sanctuary the sins which had been transferred to it by means of the ministration in the first apartment, Heb. 9:22, 23; and that this work, in the antitype, commencing in 1844, occupies a brief but indefinite space, at the conclusion of which the work of mercy for the world is finished. |
11. That God’s moral requirements are the same upon all men in all dispensations; that these are summarily contained in the commandments spoken by Jehovah from Sinai, engraven on the tables of stone, and deposited in the ark, which was in consequence called the “ark of the covenant,” or testament. Num. 10:33, Heb. 9:4, &c.; that this law is immutable and perpetual, being a transcript of the tables deposited in the ark in the true sanctuary on high, which is also, for the same reason, called the ark of God’s testament; for under the sounding of the seventh trumpet we are told that “the temple of God was opened in Heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament.” Rev. 11:19. |
12. That the fourth commandment of this law requires that we devote the seventh day of each week, commonly called Saturday, to abstinence from our own labor, and to the performance of sacred and religious duties; that this is the only weekly Sabbath known to the Bible, being the day that was set apart before Paradise was lost, Gen. 2:2, 3, and which will be observed in paradise restored, Isa. 66:22, 23; that the facts upon which the Sabbath institution is based confine it to the seventh day, as they are not true of any other day; and that the terms, Jewish Sabbath, and Christian Sabbath, as applied to the weekly rest-day, are names of human invention, unscriptural in fact, and false in meaning. |
13. That as the man of sin, the papacy, has thought to change times and laws (the laws of God), Dan. 7:25, and has misled almost all Christendom in regard to the fourth commandment, we find a prophecy of a reform in this respect to be wrought among believers just before the coming of Christ. Isa. 56:1, 2, 1 Pet. 1:5, Rev. 14:12, &c. |
14. That as the natural or carnal heart is at enmity with God and his law, this enmity can be subdued only by a radical transformation of the affections, the exchange of unholy for holy principles; that this transformation follows repentance and faith, is the special work of the HOLY SPIRIT, and constitutes regeneration or conversion. |
15. That as all have violated the law of God, and cannot of themselves render obedience to his just requirements, we are dependent on Christ, first, for justification from our past offenses, and, secondly, for grace whereby to render acceptable obedience to his holy law in time to come. |
16. That the SPIRIT OF GOD was promised to manifest itself in the church through certain gifts, enumerated especially in 1 Cor. 12 and Eph. 4; that these gifts are not designed to supersede, or take the place of, the Bible, which is sufficient to make us wise unto salvation, any more than the Bible can take the place of the HOLY SPIRIT; that, in specifying the various channels of its operation, that SPIRIT has simply made provision for its own existence and presence with the people of God to the end of time, to lead to an understanding of that word which it had inspired, to convince of sin, and to work a transformation in the heart and life; and that those who deny to the SPIRIT its place and operation, do plainly deny that part of the Bible which assigns to it this work and position. |
17. That God, in accordance with his uniform dealings with the race, sends forth a proclamation of the approach of the second advent of Christ; and that this work is symbolized by the three messages of Rev. 14, the last one bringing to view the work of reform on the law of God, that his people may acquire a complete readiness for that event. |
18. That the time of the cleansing of the sanctuary (see proposition 10), synchronizing with the time of the proclamation of the third message, is a time of investigative judgment, first, with reference to the dead, and at the close of probation with reference to the living, to determine who of the myriads now sleeping in the dust of the earth are worthy of a part in the first resurrection, and who of its living multitudes are worthy of translation—points which must be determined before the Lord appears. |
19. That the grave, whether we all tend, expressed by the Hebrew sheol and the Greek hades, is a place of darkness in which there is no work, device, wisdom, nor knowledge. Eccl. 9:10. |
20. That the state to which we are reduced by death is one of silence, inactivity, and entire unconsciousness. Ps. 146:4; Eccl. 9:5, 6; Dan. 12:2, &c. |
21. That out of this prison house of the grave mankind are to be brought by a bodily resurrection; the righteous having part in the first resurrection, which takes place at the second advent of Christ, the wicked in the second resurrection, which takes place a thousand years thereafter. Rev. 20:4-6. |
22. That at the last trump, the living righteous are to be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, and with the resurrected righteous are to be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, so forever to be with the Lord. |
23. That these immortalized ones are then taken to Heaven, to the New Jerusalem, the Father’s house, in which there are many mansions, John 14:1-3, where they reign with Christ a thousand years, judging the world and fallen angels, that is, apportioning the punishment to be executed upon them at the close of the one thousand years; Rev. 20:4; 1 Cor. 6:2, 3; that during this time the earth lies in a desolate and chaotic condition, Jer. 4:23-27, described, as in the beginning by the Greek term abussos bottomless pit (Septuagint of Gen. 1:2); and that here Satan is confined during the thousand years, Rev. 20:1, 2, and here finally destroyed, Rev. 20:10; Mal. 4:1; the theater of the ruin he has wrought in the universe, being appropriately made for a time, his gloomy prison house, and then the place of his final execution. |
24. That at the end of the thousand years, the Lord descends with his people and the New Jerusalem, Rev. 21:2, the wicked dead are raised and come up upon on the surface of the yet unrenewed earth, and gather about the city, the camp of the saint, Rev. 20:9, and fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours them. They are then consumed root and branch, Mal. 4:1, becoming as though they had not been. Obad. 15, 16. In this everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, 2 Thess. 1:9, the wicked meet the everlasting punishment threatened against them, Matt. 25:46, This is the perdition of ungodly men, the fire which consumes them being the fire for which “the heavens and the earth which are now” are kept in store, which shall melt even the elements with its intensity, and purge the earth from the deepest stains of the curse of sin. 2 Peter 3:7-12. |
25. That new heavens and earth shall spring by the power of God from the ashes of the old, to be, with the New Jerusalem for its metropolis and capital, the eternal inheritance of the saints, the place where the righteous shall evermore dwell. 2 Peter 3:13; Ps. 37:11, 29; Matt. 5:5. |
As you will observe, THE HOLY SPIRIT IS AN ATTRIBUTE OF GOD and there is NO MENTION OF A TRINITY. |
What did James White and the pioneers believe about the trinity ? Well, as an example: |
James White wrote: AS FUNDAMENTAL ERRORS, we might class with this counterfeit Sabbath other errors which Protestants have brought away from the Catholic church, such as sprinkling for baptism, THE TRINITY, the consciousness of the dead and eternal life in misery. THE MASS WHO HAVE HELD THESE FUNDAMENTAL ERRORS, HAVE DOUBTLESS DONE IT IGNORANTLY, BUT CAN IT BE SUPPOSED THAT THE CHURCH OF CHRIST WILL CARRY ALONG WITH HER THESE ERRORS TILL THE JUDGMENT SCENES BURST UPON THE WORLD? WE THINK NOT. {Review & Herald, September 12, 1854} |
What else has Satan altered and cannot alter ? |
Satan cannot touch the mind or intellect unless we yield it to him. John 3:16. Excuse sins as though we had no power to overcome them? How readily would God have given Adam and Eve power, if they had gone to Him. We may say how weak they were, but we have their example, and it is repeated over and over again. And what is required to save man? To abolish the law of God? No. NOT ONE JOT OR TITTLE OF THE LAW OF GOD HAS BEEN CHANGED. IF THE LAW COULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED, THEN JESUS NEED NOT HAVE DIED. God’s law was immutable, and changeless as His throne. He would not leave men free to continue in transgression. Because man was lost he must be ransomed with a price. {Ms17-1893} |
The Son of God came to our world with his heart overflowing with love for fallen man. He was in the express image of God, and equal with God in character. He was the brightness of his Father’s glory, the express image of his person. He came to meet and to conquer his adversary, SATAN, THE FALLEN ANGEL, WHO HAD BECOME EXALTED BECAUSE OF HIS BRIGHTNESS AND WISDOM, AND WHO DESIRED TO PLACE HIS THRONE ABOVE THE THRONE OF GOD. SATAN DESIRED TO SET ASIDE THE LAW OF GOD, WHOSE PRECEPTS COULD NOT BE ALTERED ANY MORE THAN COULD HIS CHARACTER OR HIS THRONE. SATAN SOUGHT TO BE FIRST AMONG THE RANKS OF HEAVEN, TO HAVE THE SUPREMACY IN THE COURTS OF GOD, AND FOR THIS SIN HE WAS CAST OUT OF HEAVEN, AND BECAME THE LOWEST OF ALL CREATURES. Christ came to controvert Satan’s assertions, and to reveal his misrepresentations of the character of God. The Son of God clothed his divinity with humanity, and came to the world without parade or display, that he might be accepted, not because of outward attractions, but because of his heavenly attributes of character, as revealed in his words and works. He presented to men lessons whereby their souls were brought into comparison with the law of God, not in a legal light, but in the light of the Sun of Righteousness, that man by beholding might be changed into the divine image. {ST, November 5, 1894 par. 2} |
GOD COULD NOT ALTER ONE PRECEPT OF HIS LAW TO MEET MAN IN HIS LOST CONDITION; FOR IN SO DOING HE WOULD REVEAL THAT HE WAS NOT AN ALL-WISE AND INFALLIBLE BEING, WITHOUT VARIABLENESS OR SHADOW OF TURNING. No man can prove that God has changed the thing that has gone out of his lips. God is not changeable. He is not a man, that he should lie. ONE PRECEPT, ONE JOT OR TITTLE, OF THE LAW CHANGED OR ALTERED, WOULD HAVE GIVEN SATAN ALL HE ASKED IN HEAVEN IN HIS CONTROVERSY WITH CHRIST. SATAN COULD NOT POINT TO ANY TIME WHEN THE LORD HAD CHANGED HIS HOLY REST DAY, WHEN HE HAD REMOVED HIS SANCTITY FROM THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK AND PLACED IT UPON THE FIRST. Therefore he had to employ his deceiving power to make men believe that the fourth commandment had been changed. {RH, September 6, 1898 par. 2} |
The Lord has a special message for His ambassadors to bear. They are to give the people the warning, calling upon them to repair the breach that has been made by the papacy in the law of God. THE SABBATH HAS BEEN MADE A NONENTITY, AN UNESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT, WHICH HUMAN AUTHORITY CAN SET ASIDE. THE HOLY DAY OF THE LORD HAS BEEN CHANGED TO A COMMON WORKING DAY. MEN HAVE TORN DOWN GOD’S MEMORIAL, PLACING A FALSE REST DAY IN ITS STEAD. {Ms35-1900} |
GOD’S CHARACTER IS REVEALED IN THE PRECEPTS OF HIS HOLY LAW. THIS IS THE REASON WHY SATAN WISHES THIS LAW TO BE MADE OF NONE EFFECT. BUT NOTWITHSTANDING ALL HIS EFFORTS, THE LAW STANDS FORTH HOLY AND UNCHANGED. IT IS A TRANSCRIPT OF GOD’S CHARACTER. IT CANNOT BE IMPEACHED OR ALTERED. {Ms73-1901} |
IN THE LAST DAYS SATAN WILL APPEAR AS AN ANGEL OF LIGHT, WITH GREAT POWER AND HEAVENLY GLORY, and claim to be the lord of the whole earth. HE WILL DECLARE THAT THE SABBATH HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM THE SEVENTH TO THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK; and as lord of the first day of the week he will present this spurious sabbath as a test of loyalty to him. Then will take place the final fulfilment of the Revelator’s prophecy: {Ms153-1902} |
GOD’S LAW IS ETERNAL, UNCHANGEABLE, IMMUTABLE. IT IS AN EXPRESSION OF HIS HIGH AUTHORITY. Upon us rests the responsibility of obeying the word of the highest Potentate in heaven. “VERILY MY SABBATHS YE SHALL KEEP,” HE DECLARES; “FOR IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU THROUGH OUT YOUR GENERATIONS FOREVER.” Human beings are to bring themselves into entire conformity to God’s holy law. The cross of Calvary is to be to them a perpetual memorial of the nobler world. By faith they are to see Him who is invisible. They have enlisted in Christ’s army, and they are to come out from the world, and be separate, loving not the world, neither the things of the world. They are to set their affections on things above. They are to represent Christ in character. This is the special charge that has been given them. They are to live in this world as men and women waiting only for that perfection of character which will enable them fully to represent the Saviour. How important, then, that they should stand out in bold relief from the world, beseeching men to be reconciled to God. {Lt247-1904} |

Each “complete day” is from sunset to sunset – according to God and His Word. |
Ge1.5 AND GOD CALLED THE LIGHT DAY, AND THE DARKNESS HE CALLED NIGHT. AND THE EVENING AND THE MORNING WERE THE FIRST DAY. {The Hebrew word for morning is boqer, which means “sunrise,” “end of night,” “coming of daylight,” and “beginning of day.” Therefore, the order of the day consists of sunset and sunrise as the scripture says, AND THE EVENING (sunset) AND THE MORNING (sunrise), WERE THE FIRST DAY. Sunset started a new day. Each day consisted of an evening [night-time] and then a morning [day-time]. This complete day is the biblical day from Genesis.} {The first “day” begins with darkness before light (Genesis 1:2-3). Then, after God brought “light,” the Bible defines a day as such: “And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.” This phrase is repeated several times (1:8; 1:13; 1:19; 1:23; 1:31). Thus, the first day, as defined by scripture, consists of an evening first and then a morning. This pattern is the basis for the position that a biblical day is from sunset to sunset [sundown to sundown].} {So a whole “day” is measured from dark – that is, sunset – to the next sunset. Therefore a full “day” is sunset, through all night, through all day, until the sun sets again. Therefore, the Sabbath begins when the sun sets on Friday, and it ends when the sun sets on Saturday. Of course, according to the Gregorian calendar, Saturday remains “Saturday” until midnight, because we must use modern civil time to determine our days which are measured from midnight to midnight.} |

If the day began and ended at sunrise, the merchants would still have had plenty of time to buy and sell before the Sabbath. Nehemiah’s concern that the Sabbath would be defiled would not make sense if the Sabbath didn’t start for another twelve hours.} |
Ps50.1 The mighty God, [even] the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN UNTO THE GOING DOWN THEREOF. |

Ml1.11 For FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN EVEN UNTO THE GOING DOWN OF THE SAME my name [shall be] great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense [shall be] offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name [shall be] great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. |

As in the Old Testament, the first day of the Passover Feast included the day and the preceding evening as the disciples came to the guest room on the first day of Passover before twilight — that is before sunset.} |

Lk4.40 >Now WHEN THE SUN WAS SETTING, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. |
Lk24.1 Now upon THE FIRST [DAY] OF THE WEEK, VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain [others] with them. |

Jn20.1 THE FIRST [DAY] OF THE WEEK cometh Mary Magdalene EARLY, WHEN IT WAS YET DARK, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. |
Jn20.19 >Then THE SAME DAY AT EVENING, BEING THE FIRST [DAY] OF THE WEEK, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace [be] unto you. |
Ep4.26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the SUN GO DOWN upon your wrath: |
Ja1.11 For THE SUN IS NO SOONER RISEN with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. |
The coming of Christ will be as it were at midnight, when all are sleeping. It will be well for every one to have his accounts all straightened up BEFORE SUNSET. All his works should be right, all his dealings just, between himself and his fellow-men. All dishonesty, all sinful practices should be put far away. The oil of grace should be in our vessels with our lamps. There will be some at that late day who will have the appearance of being Christians, but their identity with Christ is only a deception. Sad indeed will be the condition of the soul who has had a form of godliness but has denied the power thereof; who has called Christ, Lord, Lord, and yet who has not his image and superscription. The foolish virgins flattered themselves that they would have mercy, that they would obtain an entrance into the marriage feast; but the Master answered their plea for admission with a stern refusal, saying, “I know you not.” “And the door was shut.” {RH, March 27, 1894 par. 10} |
In the time of Christ the people of Palestine lived in walled towns, which were mostly situated upon hills or mountains. THE GATES, WHICH WERE CLOSED AT SUNSET, were approached by steep, rocky roads, and the traveler journeying homeward AT THE CLOSE OF THE DAY often had to press his way in eager haste up the difficult ascent in order to reach the gate BEFORE NIGHTFALL. The loiterer was left without. {MB 138.1 1896} |
My brethren, I have a message for you. The Lord would have you put your trust in Him, and EVERY DAY, FROM SUNRISE UNTIL SUNSET, consider your individual responsibility. The responsibility resting upon every individual, if at all realized, make his life a very solemn one. Consider what is truth. “Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.” I set myself apart to the entire service of God, that I may leave others an example that they may safely follow. The perfection of Christ’s character is what we should struggle for earnestly. {Lt4-1898} |
Conclusion: |
The Bible confirms that a “complete day” comprises of an evening [from sunset] /night-time and a morning / full day-time [until sunset]. |
Both the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy confirm that each and every “complete day” starts and ends at sunset [sundown]. |
Sundown |
Give up your schemes, your projects and enterprises. Face duty, stern duty and faithfully perform that which rests upon you. Friday commence in the morning to prepare for the Sabbath and one hour BEFORE SUNDOWN, have everything done and you be prepared for reading. {Lt5a-1865} |
We arrived home a little BEFORE SUNDOWN. Received letters from Brother Canright, also Mary Gaskill and Daniel Bourdeau, giving us an account of camp meeting. When we reached home we found John Cranson there. We felt sorry that he should come to see us on the Sabbath. We do not like to have visitors to entertain upon the Sabbath who have no respect for God or His holy day.–Manuscript 11, 1873. {3SM 264.5} |
We arrived at home in Denison before the Sabbath and were well arranged BEFORE SUNDOWN. {Lt45-1879} |
The people seem to be hungering and thirsting for the bread and water of salvation. The Lord gave me much of His Holy Spirit. I was very free in the Lord. Hearts were touched, for the Spirit of the Lord rested upon the people. WE HAD A VERY EXCELLENT SOCIAL MEETING WHICH LASTED UNTIL AFTER SUNDOWN. This was indeed a good day for this church. Confessions were made by some, very humiliating to the soul, but essential for them, that the fruits might appear unto righteousness. {Ms18-1889} |
I have thought I could get this into the office before Sabbath, but the matter seems hopeless as it is NEARLY SUNDOWN. {Lt91-1890} |
I have had a very restless night. I labored hard Friday afternoon, coming at half past two and continuing my labors UNTIL SUNDOWN. The Lord blessed me indeed. The Lord removed the pain in my heart. The Lord gave me peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. {Ms42-1890} |
One young man, a Swede, will lose his situation. He has been receiving seventeen shillings per week as a professional gardener, but the wife of his employer is a strong Catholic and declares she will not have a Seventh-day Adventist on her premises. A blacksmith has closed his shop and put out his sign, “NO WORK DONE FROM FRIDAY SUNDOWN UNTIL SATURDAY AFTER SUNDOWN.” He bore testimony. {Ms60-1895} |
Once again, the above confirms that each “complete day” starts at a sundown [sunset] and ends at the following sundown. |
Note: Sabbath church meetings were called SOCIAL MEETINGS. They were not social meetings as we know them today. |

Consider the Ten Commandments against the stature of a man and a woman. |
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_plaque |
This webpage shows a typical man and woman. |
Taking the stature of mankind, now consider the man or woman as being 10 units in height with unit 1 at the top. |
Unit 1: The forehead i.e. the crown of the head. |
Unit 2: The face, neck and shoulders. |
Unit 3: The upper chest and armpit. |
Unit 4: The lower chest, bosom, heart. |
Unit 5: The stomach. |
Unit 6: The sex genitals and upper thigh. |
Unit 7: The lower thigh. |
Unit 8: The knee. |
Unit 9: The calf of the leg. |
Unit 10: The ankle and foot. |
Now consider these against the 10 Commandments. |
Ex20.3 THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. |
Satan has proliferated hundreds of other gods and goddess for mankind to worship. |
Unit 1: The forehead i.e. the crown of the head. |
If you loose your head then you loose your life – your forehead, which includes your brain – your intellect and reasoning powers – is the most important part of your anatomy. |
The forehead is in the top unit of height – which is also the powerhouse – with the brain controlling the whole body. |
This parallels the greatest 1st Commandment as being the most important – to WORSHIP GOD. |
Ex20.5 THOU SHALT NOT BOW DOWN THYSELF TO THEM, NOR SERVE THEM: for I the LORD THY GOD [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; |
All forms of worship have been entertained. |
Unit 2: The face, neck and shoulders. |
Four of the five sense are in this unit which includes your face: Eyesight, Hearing, Smell and Taste. |
Your neck, along with your shoulders – a sign of strength – is very flexible and permits your face to look elsewhere. |
Satan has been very successful in getting people to look elsewhere and follow other religions and to obey their requirements. |
Our worship must be to the ONLY LIVING GOD THROUGH HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. |
Ex20.7 THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. [le19.12; mt5.33] |
Mankind, through being controlled by Satan, often takes God’s name in vain. Blasphemy and profanity are now rampant. |
Unit 3: The upper chest and armpits. |
Ex20.8 REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. |
Satan has endeavoured to change the Sabbath to Sunday. |
Unit 4: The lower chest, bosom, heart, upper arms including the muscles [a sign of strength]. |
Bosom – refers to the chest / heart / centre of love; something very close or intimate. A mother holds, in her arms, her new born baby close to her bosom. Her bosom is close to her heart – which may be seen as an act of love for her child. Likewise, GOD IS DEMONSTRATING HIS LOVE FOR HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON WHICH WAS TORN FROM HIS BOSOM. |
God has given us His commandments, not only to be believed in, but to be obeyed. The great Jehovah, when He had laid the foundations of the earth, had dressed the whole world in the garb of beauty, and had filled it with things useful to man,–when He had created all the wonders of the land and the sea,–instituted the Sabbath day and made it holy. God blessed and sanctified the seventh day, because He rested upon it from all His wondrous work of creation. THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, and God would have him put by his labor on that day, as He Himself rested after His six days’ work of creation. {4T 247.2 1876-1881} |
IN THE VERY BOSOM OF THE DECALOGUE IS THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT, as it was first proclaimed: “REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.” [Exodus 20:8-11.] {GC88 434.2 1888} |
This is so important: |
God is saying, just like the 10 Commandments, in your very bosom, close to your heart, the place of your deepest love, that is where I want you to keep the Sabbath day, so that you can keep it Holy. |
… The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty; for it is the point of truth especially controverted. {4SP 422.2 1884} |
Controverted means “argued about” or “denial of the truth”. |
Had the Sabbath always been sacredly observed, there could never have been an atheist or an idolater. THE SABBATH INSTITUTION, WHICH ORIGINATED IN EDEN, IS AS OLD AS THE WORLD ITSELF. It was observed by all the patriarchs, from creation down. During the bondage in Egypt, the Israelites were forced by their taskmasters to violate the Sabbath, and to a great extent they lost the knowledge of its sacredness. When the law was proclaimed at Sinai the very first words of the fourth commandment were, “REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY“—showing that the Sabbath was not then instituted; WE ARE POINTED BACK FOR ITS ORIGIN TO CREATION. In order to obliterate God from the minds of men, Satan aimed to tear down this great memorial. If men could be led to forget their Creator, they would make no effort to resist the power of evil, and Satan would be sure of his prey. 489 {CCh 270.5 1991} {PP 336.2 1890} |
There is another parallel here, which is found in Genesis: |
Ge2.21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; |
Ge2.22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. |
Ge2.23 And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. |
It would have been well within God’s capacity for Him to create Adam and Eve simultaneously. So why did he create Eve using a rib from Adam? [Note also that the ribs are 40% down relating to the body shape of man and parallels what God has done when He formed Jesus (bosom, chest, rib, heart, place of love, Sabbath day are all at 40%.).] |
Ex20.12 >HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. [de5.16; ep6.2-3] |
The Commandment with a promise. Disobedience and having no respect for parents is prevalent in today’s society. |
Unit 5: The stomach and forearms. |
The muscles of the forearm work together to move the elbow, forearm, wrist, and digits of the hand. |
For around 20% – 25% of our lives, we are in the care of our parents. They feed us, clothe us, educate us, provide us with a home and do many more things. It is Satan’s plan to destroy each family unit. |
He also does this by diet, as THE GOSPEL OF HEALTH IS THE RIGHT ARM OF THE [THIRD ANGEL’S] MESSAGE. |
The GOSPEL OF HEALTH has able advocates, but their work has been made very hard because so many ministers, presidents of conferences, and others in positions of influence, have failed to give the question of HEALTH REFORM its proper attention. They have not recognized it in its relation to the work of the message as THE RIGHT ARM of the body. While very little respect has been shown to this department by many of the people, and by some of the ministers, the Lord has shown His regard for it by giving it abundant prosperity. {CD 73.1 1938} |
When properly conducted, THE HEALTH WORK IS AN ENTERING WEDGE, making a way for other truths to reach the heart. When THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE is received in its fullness, HEALTH REFORM will be given its place in the councils of the conference, in the work of the church, in the home, at the table, and in all the household arrangements. Then the right arm will serve and protect the body. {CD 73.2 1938} |
But while THE HEALTH WORK has its place in the promulgation of THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE, its advocates must not in any way strive to make it take the place of the message. {CD 73.3 1938} |
Ex20.13 THOU SHALT NOT KILL. |
Attacks and murders are prevalent in today’s society. |
Unit 6: The hands, the sex genital area and upper thighs. |
The hands can be used for good and bad purposes. They can grasp and move objects in two different ways: with a power grip or precision grip. The object’s size, shape, weight and ease of handling determines which of these two approaches is used. The power grip is better suited for large, heavy objects, and the precision grip is used for small, delicate objects. |
The sex genitals can be used as a blessing but more often they are over-used and are a curse with respect to abortion. |
6 in Gematria means Man (conscience, flesh) – His Weakness – Manifestation of Sin – Evil – Satan (& his influences) – Something Incomplete or Imperfect. |
The thighs contain some of the largest muscles in the body. The thigh muscles allow the lower body to bend, flex and rotate. They also bear most of the body’s weight, and keep the hips and legs aligned, in addition to providing and assisting with balance. |
Ex20.14 THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY. |
Adultery and rape are prevalent in today’s society. |
Unit 7: The lower thighs. |
The thighs contain some of the largest muscles in the body. The thigh muscles allow the lower body to bend, flex and rotate. They also bear most of the body’s weight, and keep the hips and legs aligned, in addition to providing and assisting with balance. |
Ex20.15 THOU SHALT NOT STEAL. |
There is much stealing in today’s society. |
Unit 8: The knees. |
These assist in providing mobility. |
Ex20.16 THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOUR. [de5.16-20; mt19.18-19; ro13.9] [de5.17-18; mk10.19; lk18.20; ja2.11] |
We hear of much false witnessing in today’s society. |
Unit 9: The calf of the legs. |
Your calf muscle supports you when you stand and enables you to move your foot and your lower leg. It propels (pushes) you forward when you walk or run. It also allows you to jump, rotate your ankle, flex your foot and “lock” your knee. |
These assist in providing mobility. |
Ex20.17 THOU SHALT NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOUR’S HOUSE, THOU SHALT NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOUR’S WIFE, NOR HIS MANSERVANT, NOR HIS MAIDSERVANT, NOR HIS OX, NOR HIS ASS, NOR ANY THING THAT [IS] THY NEIGHBOUR’S. [ro7.7] |
The desire to want what you cannot have and don’t need is prevalent in our society. Possessions and lust – having a strong sexual desire for someone – are also widespread. |
Unit 10: The ankles and feet. |
These provide support for the whole body. They also allow us to move elsewhere; perhaps to see and then covet someone else’s possessions. |
Rain is as a result of Satan. |
Ge2.5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for THE LORD GOD HAD NOT CAUSED IT TO RAIN UPON THE EARTH, and [there was] not a man to till the ground. |
Ge2.6 But THERE WENT UP A MIST FROM THE EARTH, AND WATERED THE WHOLE FACE OF THE GROUND. |
Ge7.4 For yet seven days, and I WILL CAUSE IT TO RAIN UPON THE EARTH forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth. |
During the first 1656 years, Satan corrupted mankind and as a result, the mist that God had provided to water the earth, was replaced by rain just before the great flood in 2348 BC. Since the great flood there has been floods, sleet, frost, snow, and ice. |
Consider Time. |
Each “complete day” is from 12:00:01 to 12:00:00 – according to the Egyptians and the Gregorian calendar. |
[We use modern civil time to determine our days which are measured from midnight to midnight.] |
The reason a new day starts at 12:00 goes back to ancient Egypt when the day was measured using sundials. The shadow on the face of a sundial tells the time, and the shadow depends on where the sun is in the sky. |
When the sun is highest overhead and the shadow goes straight up to the top of the sundial, that’s noon. And as the sun goes overhead, the shadow moves until sunset when the shadow disappears. Then we have 12 more hours when the sundial doesn’t work and that’s at night. |
When the Egyptians were developing their time system they had to account for the time when there was no shadow. Since the highest point of the day was noon, the opposite has to be midnight that was when the 12 started over again, so that’s why the day starts at midnight. |
When the clock is gaining on the sundial, the Sun rises and sets later each day, and when the sundial is gaining on the clock, the Sun rises and sets earlier each day. If the two effects which give us the equation of time were solely responsible for sunrise and sunset times, these times would be late in summer and winter and early in spring and fall. Most of us would say at once that, of course this is not true. But it is true for anyone living on the equator! |
On a standard meridian at the equator one might expect the Sun to rise at 6:00 A.M. and set at 6:00 P.M., but the Sun rises at 6:03 A.M. in July, a summer month, and also rises late, at 6:11 A.M. in February, a winter month. It rises at 5:53 A.M. in mid-May, and 5:40 A.M. at the end of October. At the equator these effects are entirely accounted for by the equation of time. |
The sundial (of course an effective instrument only when the sun shines) was refined by the Greeks and taken further by the Romans a few centuries later. The Romans also used water clocks which they calibrated from a sundial and so they could measure time even when the sun was not shining, at night or on foggy days. |
Roman time keeping around the time of Christ. |
The Romans had 12 day-hours and 12 night-hours, but surprisingly, the day-hours & night-hours were not equal in duration. |
In summer months, as the days were longer than nights, so was the duration of the day-hour. It could be as long as (our) 90 minutes, during the peak of summer. Conversely, during midwinters, the day-hours were shorter [about 45 minutes] and the night-hours expanded to coincide with the duration of darkness. |
The first daylight hour (hora prima) began at sunrise, NOON WAS THE SIXTH HOUR (hora sexta), and the last hour (hora duodecima) ended at sunset. |
THERE WERE NO MINUTES OR SECONDS. TIME JUMPED FROM HOUR TO HOUR, as the day progressed. The busiest hours of the days were the fifth (hora quinta) and sixth hours (around noon), when most Roman men gathered in the forum to trade, catch up with the latest gossip or simply hang out with their friends. |
The night-hours were also divided into 4 watches or vigiliae (3 hours each): Prima vigilia, secunda vigilia, tertia vigilia, quarta vigilia. |
Other sources state that the night was divided into 8 watches: Vespera, Prima fax, Concubia and Intempesta (from sunset to midnight) & Inclinatio, Gallicinium, Conticinium & Diluculum (from midnight to sunrise). |
Mk15.25 And it was THE THIRD HOUR, and they crucified him. {Roman time keeping: THE THIRD HOUR would be 9 o’clock.} |
Mt27.45 Now from the SIXTH HOUR there was darkness over all the land unto the NINTH HOUR. {Roman time keeping. Noon to 3 o’clock.} |
Mt27.46 And about THE NINTH HOUR JESUS CRIED WITH A LOUD VOICE, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME? {THOU implies a singular God – as a trinitarian god he would have said the plural you and, by an unexplainable mystery, he would have also been speaking to himself ! } {THE NINTH HOUR would be 3 o’clock.} |
Ancient Time Measuring Devices |
Sundials and Obelisks |
Around 1330 BC simple sundials were used to divide the time interval between sunrise and sunset in 12 different parts. The Ancient Egyptian Obelisks, constructed after the great flood in 2348 BC were the oldest shadow clock used to measure time. The shadows that move to different marks enabled the Egyptians to calculate time which helped to divide day into two parts. It also solicited summer and winter. |
Sand-glass |
The sand-glass/ hourglass, made up of two conical glass connected vertically by the narrow neck, came into being in the 14th Century. It could measure passage of specific time period depending upon the size and width of the glass and the quantity of sand in it. This tool of measurement was considered more accurate than the water clock or a candle clock. |
Water clock |
Water clock was known to have existed in Babylon in Egypt around 16th Century. It was used to measure time observing steady flow of water from or into a container. Measurements were marked on the container but there were variations due to the pressure of water flow. |
Candle clock |
The candle was marked with numbers and the burning of wax indicated a specific period of time. It is unknown where the candle clocks were used although it was first referred by a Chinese poet called You Jiangu in 520 AD. |
Pendulum |
A scientific study was done around 1602 by an Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei on pendulum where its motion was used to keep a track of time. It was considered to the the world’s most accurate time-keeping invention until 1930. The pendulum clock was invented by Christian Huygens in the year 1658 which was used till 270 years and was world-wide credited for its accuracy. |
The Quartz |
In early 20th Century, Albert Einstein proposed theories of relativity and defined time as the fourth dimension. The Quartz clocks were developed in 1930 which were far more improvised version of a pendulum clock. The quartz crystal has to be placed in the suitable circuit in a way that creates interaction between mechanical stress and electric field which creates vibration in the crystal to generate a constant frequency. This is used to operate electronic clock display. |
Last, the atomic and laser invention in 1960’s has changed the measurement of time forever. Also, we never know what future the time holds! |
153 |
Jn21.11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, AN HUNDRED AND FIFTY AND THREE: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. |
The number 153 is associated with the geometric shape known as the Vesica Piscis or Mandorla. Archimedes, in his Measurement of a Circle, referred to this ratio (153/265), as constituting the “measure of the fish”, this ratio being an imperfect representation of ?3. ?3 / (265/153) = 1.0000142398416536826781105292468. |
The square root of 3 is |
1.73205080756888 |
1.7320508075 6887729352 7446341505 8723669428 0525381038 0628055806 9794519330 1690880003 7081146186 7572485756 |
When two equal circles are joined so that the perimeter of one passes the epicentre of the other, it produces a third, intermediate section, which resembles the shape of a fish. This section further contains two equilateral triangles. The mathematical ratio of its width (measured to the endpoints of the body) is nearly 265:153, yielding the number 1.73203, or the square root of 3. This can be confirmed using Euclid’s 47th Proposition. |
As a triangular number, 153 is the sum of the first 17 integers, and is also the sum of the first five positive factorials:{1!+2!+3!+4!+5!}. |
The distinct prime factors of 153 add up to 20, and so do the ones of 154, hence the two form Ruth-Aaron pair. |
The number 153 is also a hexagonal number, and a truncated triangle number, meaning that 1, 15, and 153 are all triangle numbers. |
The distinct prime factors of 153 add up to 20, and so do the ones of 154, hence the two form a Ruth-Aaron pair. |
Since 153=1^{3}+5^{3}+3^{3}, it is a 3-narcissistic number, and it is also the smallest three-digit number which can be expressed as the sum of cubes of its digits. Only five other numbers can be expressed as the sum of the cubes of their digits: 0, 1, 370, 371 and 407.[3] It is also a Friedman number, since 153 = 3 × 51. |
The Biggs–Smith graph is a symmetric graph with 153 edges, all equivalent. |
On adding the number 153 to its reverse,504 is obtained, whose square is the smallest square which can be expressed as the product of two different numbers which are reverse of one another: 153 + 351 = 504 |
The sum of aliquot divisors of 153 is also a perfect square: 1 + 3 + 9 + 17 + 51 = 81 = 92 Aliquot divisors of a number are all the divisors of that number excluding the number itself but including 1. It is seen that the sum of aliquot divisors of 153 is the square of the sum of the digits of 153. |
The sum of digits of 153 is a perfect square: 1 + 5 + 3 = 9 = 3^{2}. |
Another feature of the number 153 is that it is the limit of the following algorithm: |
Take a random positive integer, divisible by three |
Split that number into its base 10 digits |
Take the sum of their cubes |
Go back to the second step. |
An example, starting with the number 84: |
8^{3}+4^{3} = 512+64 = 576 |
5^{3}+7^{3}+6^{3} = 125+343+216 = 684 |
6^{3}+8^{3}+4^{3} = 216+512+64 = 792 |
7^{3}+9^{3}+2^{3} = 343+729+8 = 1080 |
1^{3}+0^{3}+8^{3}+0^{3} = 1+0+512+0 = 513 |
5^{3}+1^{3}+3^{3} = 125+1+27 = 153 |
1^{3}+5^{3}+3^{3} = 1+125+27 = 153 |
Augustine of Hippo argued that the significance of 153 lay in the fact that 153 is the sum of the first 17 integers (i.e. 153 is the 17th triangular number), with 17 representing the combination of divine grace (the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit) and law (the Ten Commandments). |
Evagrius Ponticus referred to the catch of 153 fish, as well as to the mathematical properties of the number (153 = 100 + 28 + 25, with 100 a square number, 28 a triangular number and 25 a circular number) when describing his 153-chapter work on prayer. |
Briefly, the fish symbol is based on a Greek acronym for the phrase Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Saviour. In Greek, the phrase is ?????? ???????, ???? ????, ?????. When we take the first letter from each word in that phrase, we have ?????, which happens to be the Greek word for “fish” (ixthus or icthus—the spelling can vary in English). |
During the early days of Christianity, Christians were often put to death for practising their faith, so they worshipped in secret places. A fish painted or etched on the outside door of a house let other Christians know that they would be safe and welcome inside. The ancient catacombs are filled with images of fish, carved there by Christians hiding from persecution. |
Satan has changed many things. |
One of the biggest changes is the attack on GOD THE FATHER AND THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST. |
There are literally hundreds of gods and goddesses that have be created to hide the One True God and His Only Begotten Son and the fact that they undertook Creation. |
Partial list of gods and goddesses. |
All ancient civilizations on our planet have gods and goddesses, or at least important, mythical leaders who brought the world into existence. These beings could be called on in times of trouble, or to pray to for good harvests, or to support the people in wars. Commonalities are widespread. But ancient people configured their pantheon of gods whether they were all powerful or part human, or stuck to their own realm or visited on earth, meddling directly in the affairs of humans. The cross-cultural study is a fascinating one. |
Greek Gods |
Many people can name at least some of the major Greek deities, but the list of gods in ancient Greece runs into the thousands. The Greek creation myth begins with the god of love, Eros, who creates the sky and the earth and makes them fall in love. From their perch on Mount Olympus, the major gods such as Apollo and Aphrodite acted like and even associated with, humans, leading to god/human hybrids called demigods. |
Many of the demigods were warriors who walked and fought alongside humans in the stories written down in the Iliad and Odyssey. Eight gods (Apollo, Areas, Dionysus, Hades, Hephaestus, Hermes, Poseidon, Zeus) are arguably the most important of the Greek gods. |
Egyptian Gods |
Ancient Egyptian gods are recorded on tombs and manuscripts beginning in the Old Kingdom of about 2600 BC and lasting until the Romans conquered Egypt in 33 BC. The religion was remarkably stable throughout that time, made up of gods who controlled the sky (the sun god Re) and the underworld (Osiris, god of the dead), with one brief adventure into monotheism under the New Kingdom reign of Akhenaten. |
The creation myths of ancient Egypt were complex, with several versions, but they all start with the god Atum who creates order from chaos. Monuments, texts, and even public offices bear the marks of Egypt’s myriad gods. Fifteen gods (Anubis, Bastet, Bes, Geb, Hathor, Horus, Neith, Isis, Nephthys, Nut, Osiris, Ra, Set, Shu, and Tefnut) stand out as being the most significant religiously or the most prominent in terms of the political power of their priesthoods. |
Norse Gods |
In Norse mythology, the giants came first, and then the Old Gods (the Vanir) who were later supplanted by the New Gods (the Aesir). The Norse myths were written down in fragments until The Prose Edda, compiled in the 13th century, and they include pre-Christian stories of the great deeds of old Scandinavia and the myths of its creation. |
The Norse creation myth is that the god Surt both creates and destroys the world. Modern-day movie-goers know of the likes of Thor and Odin and Loki, but becoming familiar with 15 of the classic Norse gods (Andvari, Balder, Freya, Frigg, Loki, Njord, the Norns, Odin, Thor, and Tyr) will better illuminate their pantheon. |
Roman Gods |
The Romans sustained a religion that adopted most of the Greek gods for their own with different names and slightly different myths. They also incorporated without too much discrimination the gods of particular interest to a newly conquered group, the better to foster assimilation in their imperialistic ventures. |
In Roman mythology, Chaos itself created Gaia, the Earth, and Ouranos, the Heavens. A handy table of equivalents between 15 similar Greek and Roman gods—Venus is Aphrodite in Roman clothing, while Mars is the Roman version of Ares—shows just how similar they were. In addition to Venus and Mars, the most significant Roman gods are Diana, Minerva, Ceres, Pluto, Vulcan, Juno, Mercury, Vesta, Saturn, Proserpina, Neptune, and Jupiter. |
Hindu Gods |
The Hindu religion is the majority religion in India, and Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer represent the most significant cluster of Hindu gods. The Hindu tradition counts thousands of major and minor gods within its ranks, who are celebrated and honoured under a wide variety of names and avatars. |
Familiarity with 10 of the most widely known Hindu gods—Ganesha, Shiva, Krishna, Rama, Hanuman, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Durga, Kali, Saraswati— offers an insight into the rich tapestry of ancient Hindu belief. |
Aztec Gods |
The Late Post-classic period Aztec culture of Mesoamerica (1110–1521 AD) worshipped more than 200 different deities spanning three broad classes of Aztec life—the heavens, fertility and agriculture, and war. To the Aztecs, religion, science and the arts were interconnected and meshed almost seamlessly. |
The Aztec cosmos was tripartite: a visible world of humans and nature lay suspended between supernatural levels above (illustrated by Tlaloc, god of thunderstorms and rain) and below (Tlaltechutli, the monstrous earth goddess). Many of the gods in the Aztec pantheon are much older than the Aztec culture, called pan-Mesoamerican; learning about these ten deities—Huitzilopochtli, Tlaloc, Tonatiuh, Tezcatlipoca, Chalchiuhtlicue, Centeotl, Quetzalcoatl, Xipe Totec, Mayahuel, and Tlaltechutli—will introduce you to the Aztec cosmos. |
Celtic Gods |
The Celtic culture refers to an Iron Age European people (1200–15 BC) who interacted with the Romans, and it is that interaction that provided much of what we know of their religion. Mythologies and legends of the Celts survive as oral tradition in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, and Germany. |
But early druids didn’t commit their religious texts to paper or stone, so much of Celtic antiquity is lost to modern-day students. Luckily, after the Roman advance into Britain, first the Romans and then the early Christian monks copied down the druidic oral histories, including stories of the shape-shifting goddess Ceridwen and the horned fertility god Cernunnos. |
Nearly two dozen Celtic deities remain of interest today: Alator, Albiorix, Belenus, Borvo, Bres, Brigantia, Brigit, Ceridwen, Cernunnos, Epona, Esus, Latobius, Lenus, Lugh, Maponus, Medb, Morrigan, Nehalennia, Nemausicae, Nerthus, Nuada, and Saitama. |
Japanese Gods |
The Japanese religion is Shinto, first documented in the 8th century AD. The Shinto creation myth has an agricultural bent to it: The world of chaos was changed when a germ of life created a muddy sea, and the first plant eventually became the first god. It combines a traditional pantheon of gods, including a creator couple Izanami (“He who invites”) and Izanagi (“She who invites”), while borrowing from Japan’s neighbors and ancient homegrown animism. |
The most universal of the Japanese gods and goddesses include Izanami and Izanagi; Amaterasu, Tsukiyomi no Mikoto, and Susanoh; Ukemochi, Uzume, Ninigi, Hoderi, Inari; and the seven Shinto gods of Good Fortune. |
Mayan Gods |
The Maya predate the Aztec, and like the Aztec, based some of their theology on the existing pan-Mesoamerican religions. Their creation myth is narrated in the Popul Vuh: six deities lie in the primordial waters and eventually create the world for us. |
Mayan deities rule over a tripartite cosmos and were applied to for assistance in war or childbirth; they also ruled over specific periods of time, having feast days and months built into the calendar. Important gods in the Maya pantheon include the creator god Itzamna and the moon goddess Ix Chel, as well as Ah Puch, Akan, Huracan, Camazotz, Zipacna, Xmucane and Xpiacoc, Chac, Kinich Ahau, Chac Chel, and Moan Chan. |
Chinese Gods |
Ancient China worshipped a vast network of local and regional mythological deities, nature spirits, and ancestors, and reverence for those gods persisted well into the modern era. Over the millennia, China has embraced and developed three major religions, all established first in the 5th or 6th century BC: Confucianism (led by Confucius 551-479 BC), Buddhism (led by Siddhartha Gautama), and Taoism (led by Lao Tzu, d. 533 BC). |
Important and lingering figures in the historical texts on Chinese gods and goddesses include the “Eight Immortals,” the “Two Heavenly Bureaucrats,” and “Two Mother Goddesses.” |
Babylonian Gods |
Among the most ancient of cultures, the people of Babylon developed a diverse melting pot of deities, derived from the older Mesopotamian cultures. Literally, thousands of gods are named in Sumerian and Akkadian, some of the oldest writing on the planet. |
Many of the Babylonian gods and myths appear in the Judeo-Christian bible, early versions of Noah and the flood, and Moses in the bull-rushes, and of course the tower of Babylon. |
Despite the vast number of individual gods in the various sub-cultures labeled as “Babylonian,” these deities retain historical significance: among the Old Gods are Apsu, Tiamat, Lahmu and Lahamu, Anshar and Kishar, Antu, Ninhursag, Mammetum, Nammu; and the Young Gods are Ellil, Ea, Sin, Ishtar, Shamash, Ninlil, Ninurta, Ninsun, Marduk, Bel, and Ashur. |
